Apart from education and training activities, AR-GE, scientific research and project activities, one of the main objectives of universities is to support regional research with an interdisciplinary perspective. The Balkans is a very important region for Turkey in terms of historical, social, economic, cultural, political, strategic, ethnic-demographic, geographical and international relations. The Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean are extremely important not only for Turkey and Greece but also for international relations, economy, politics, tourism and trade. Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, which has achieved world standards in education and science, attaches great importance to Balkans and Aegean studies. The Balkan and Aegean Research and Practice Center was established in 2017 in line with our university’s goal of developing Balkans and Aegean research in the fields of education, science, culture and art.

History

Balkan and Aegean Application and Research Center was established with the regulation published in the Official Gazette dated February 21, 2017, and numbered 29986.

Mission

Balkan and Aegean Research and Practice Center is an innovation-oriented, participatory, and sharing, scientific and ethical institution that contributes to the development of Balkans and Aegean studies in our country. Our center conducts symposiums, panels, seminars, conferences, research, projects, and publications in the fields of language, history, literature, economy, culture, art, international relations in the Balkans and the Aegean and supports such academic activities. Our Center, together with its stakeholders, has adopted the principle of shedding light on the developments in the Balkans and the Aegean and guiding our students and researchers on the Balkans and the Aegean. It also attaches great importance to the promotion of our university in Balkan countries in line with the internationalization goals in Higher Education. Since its establishment, our Center has been contributing to the development of mutual research and cooperation opportunities with universities in Balkan countries and is one of the main institutions representing our university at the meetings of the Union of Balkan Universities and the Union of Trakya Universities.

Vision

Balkan and Aegean Research and Practice Center aims to be one of the leading institutions in the field of Balkans and Aegean studies in Turkey through research, projects and academic activities and aims to become a nationally and internationally respected and recognized research center. It also aims to contribute to the recognition of the field of Balkanology in our country and to its acceptance as a separate discipline. In addition, in the context of Turkey's internationalization goals in Higher Education, it has the vision to increase the number of Balkan students studying at our university and to create awareness in the Balkans in this field.
